Bolts to Add a Jackplate 519vx

Jackplate Upgrade for Ranger 519vx
While having the outboard rebuilt, it’s a great time to add a jackplate to the Ranger 519vx. Jackplates allow you to adjust motor height and prop depth, improving both speed and control.
With a direct transom mount (like the Optimax), prop height can’t be changed. Using a jackplate lets you fine-tune the prop’s bite in the water—raise for less drag and more speed, lower for grip under heavy load.
Correct Bolts for Installation
Recommended: Mercury Marine bolt kit for mounting the jackplate to the transom—works great for secure installation.

- Long Bolts in Pic. Amount of thread left with 4 inch bolts thru transom
Transom mounting:
- Use 4" stainless steel bolts (4 x 1/2 x 20) for plenty of thread engagement and strength.
- Fine thread bolts with nylock nuts provide extra security.
Motor-to-Jackplate Bolts
The bolts in the Mercury kit are too long for mounting the motor to the jackplate. Use the following hardware for proper fit:
- Upper bolts: 2x — 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 20
- Lower bolts: 2x — 1/2 x 3 x 20
Lower bolts go through a thicker section of aluminum and need extra length past the nylock nut for a secure hold.
Coarse thread bolts (x13) are widely available at local hardware stores and work fine. Make sure all bolts are stainless.
Final Steps & Specs
- Torque all bolts to 80 ft-lbs.
- Add marine-grade silicone to the thru-hull bolts to prevent leaks.
With the right bolts and sturdy install, your Ranger 519vx is ready for improved performance and easy adjustment out on the water.
